University of Georgia students, faculty, and staff now have expanded opportunities to stay up to date on Georgia news for free, thanks to a UGA Libraries-funded online subscription to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The online subscription, which is provided at no cost for those with a UGA email address, adds to the UGA Libraries’ offerings of digital news content, which also includes The New York Times and The Athletic, Wall Street Journal, and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
“We consistently hear from students that they want easy access to reliable news sources,” said Toby Graham, university librarian and associate provost. “At the UGA Libraries, we’re excited to add a campus subscription to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Like the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, the AJC is provided in direct response to student requests.”
While the UGA community has been able to access Georgia news coverage, including AJC articles for years through the NewsBank database, this online subscription will allow easy, unlimited access to AJC.com and the AJC app.
“As a Georgia resident and student, I’ve noticed that many important local issues don’t get the attention they deserve in national news. I’m so excited to now have access to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, so I can stay informed about what’s happening in my home state,” said Ella Colker, a junior majoring in international affairs and political science who advocated for the expanded access as the Student Government Association’s campus services outreach director.
“I’m so grateful that UGA has gained access to a local news source that allows us to stay informed on current events in our state and provides us with new perspectives to consider while forming opinions on pertinent issues,” added Anna Reyzelman, an at-large senator in SGA who is majoring in international business and finance.
Information about how to sign up for these accounts can be found at the Libraries’ website, along with a guide on how to access millions of historic newspaper articles from around the globe via various research databases.
