UGA Librarian To Serve in National Leadership Roles
Deputy University Librarian Emily Gore will represent the University of Georgia on two national committees devoted to emerging research issues, including open access to data.
Gore, who oversees UGA Libraries’ efforts on collections, discovery, data and digital scholarship, was elected to the steering committee of SPARC, a consortium of 250 libraries and academic organizations in North America with affiliated coalitions throughout the globe that advocates for equitable and open systems for research and education.
Gore was also elected to the Association of Research Libraries Advocacy and Public Policy Committee, which works to monitor legal and policy developments and influence policy to advance research. Gore’s SPARC appointment is for 3 years, from 2024-2026, while her ARL appointment is for 2 years, 2024-2025.
“I am honored to have been elected to serve alongside my esteemed colleagues throughout North America,” Gore said. “I look forward to representing UGA Libraries and to engaging with the broader SPARC and ARL communities to expand open access and to be an advocate for research library issues.”
