Building on their award-winning faculty fellows program, University of Georgia Libraries in partnership with the Office of Instruction and EITS will offer two opportunities for faculty to design new courses centered on unique resources that drive active learning and student engagement.
The Creative Engagement Wing Faculty Fellows program launches in the spring, preparing faculty to use the cutting edge spaces of the new MLC Creative Engagement Wing to facilitate student innovation, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
This program is modeled after the Special Collections Libraries Faculty Teaching Fellows program, which has supported nearly 100 faculty in developing archives-centered pedological approaches to their courses.
Applications for both programs are due January 16, 2026 and are open to faculty across a broad range of disciplines in arts, humanities, professional, social sciences, and STEM fields.
“We are excited to connect faculty and students to the unique offerings of our Special Collections Libraries and the Miller Learning Center through these two fellows programs,” said Toby Graham, associate provost and university librarian. “Both are rich opportunities to foster active learning and ignite student creativity and critical thinking.”
With the Special Collections program, which spans the Maymester, faculty partner with librarians, archivists, and experts from the Center for Teaching and Learning to experiment on using archival collections to amplify or complement course content in significant and novel ways. Some examples include research for historical inquiry and storytelling; using objects for lessons in chemical and physical processes; or allowing materials to serve as inspiration for new creative works. The program includes a $3,000 stipend.
In the new Creative Engagement Wing Faculty Fellows program, instructors will reimagine assignments to foster creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through hands-on engagement with technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, podcasting, and immersive virtual and extended reality (VR/XR).
Hosted in partnership with the Office of Instruction and EITS, the program is designed to utilize the technology and expertise in the new Creative Engagement Wing on the third floor of the Miller Learning Center. Fellows will receive a $3,000 stipend to support the development of assignments, which includes $500 for materials or software. Participants will meet for six workshops from February through April.
