The Wormsloe Fellowship
In 2008, the Wormsloe Foundation partnered with the University of Georgia's Graduate School to launch the Wormsloe Fellowship, a prestigious award that supports graduate students for up to three years of research. The fellowship offers recipients, known as Wormsloe Fellows, a full tuition waiver, a generous stipend, a grant for supplies, and the opportunity to conduct research at Wormsloe. The University of Georgia Graduate School provides the tuition waiver and part of the stipend. The Wormsloe Foundation provides the remainder of the stipend and grants for supplies to the student and their advisor.
Applicants for the fellowship are nominated by their department and must have research proposals that align with the aims of the Wormsloe Foundation: studying, documenting, and preserving the rich cultural and natural setting of Wormsloe and coastal Georgia. Applications are evaluated by an independent committee and scored on several key criteria, including how well the research supports the Wormsloe Foundation's goals, its potential to make meaningful contributions to the field, its benefit to the local community, and its capacity for public outreach and engagement.
