Self-published graphic narrative works like zines, underground comix, and webcomics have historically provided an avenue for advocacy and activism, as well as a much-needed mechanism for creators to find like-minded community. At the same time, works of science fiction allow us to visualize the challenges of our moment and imagine hopeful and inventive futures. Today, many of us feel the need for community, expression, and hope even more fervently than our early counterparts. In honor of Georgia Writers Hall of Fame inductee and award-winning science fiction writer, Michael Bishop, please join us on February 20th at 4 PM for a zine-making workshop exploring the intersections of these two revolutionary genres! Learn about UGA’s historical zine and comics collections from librarians Stacey Piotrowski and Kathryn Manis and make your own zine exploring possibility, community, and the dream of a better tomorrow.
No prior zine-making experience is necessary and works-in-progress are welcome. We hope to see you there!
