Before recorded music and the rise of concert halls, private homes served as regular venues for live music performances. House shows have played a significant role in shaping the music scene in Athens, Georgia, often creating spaces for performers and sounds not featured in professional venues. This exhibit offers a look at selected house show locations from the 1940s through the 2000s. While some were sites of major moments in music history, others became longstanding venues with regular shows that fostered creativity and community for musicians and fans alike.
