Discovery and Digital Services Department

The Discovery and Digital Services Department serves as a manager of many web-based portfolios that develop, manage and sustain a variety of resources for the University of Georgia Libraries, GALILEO, and its partners across the state. 

This includes robust imaging and metadata units supporting the Digital Library of Georgia, the Civil Rights Digital Library, and the Georgia Historic Newspapers database, outreach coordination for facilitating connections to a wide range of cultural heritage, library, and other smaller archival organizations, and a subgrant of services program for funding the digitization, hosting, and harvesting of materials that preserve Georgia's history. 

The department is also home to dedicated developers, archivists and librarians that specialize in ILS and OPAC systems, web design, and digital archives. This team oversees workflows and custom development for the library and special collection websites at UGA including a finding aids platform, discovery layers and related services, maintaining hours for all service points and locations, repository services like ArchivesSpace and UGA Open Scholar, handling vendor relations for these platforms, and conducting user experience testing as well as training.
