Join the Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection for a week-long celebration of Home Movie Day 2020! On Thursday October 15 at 7 p.m., artist Keith Bennett will discuss via livestream his home movie collection, housed at the Brown Media Archives. Bennett’s collection features several videos of the B-52's performing and touring in the 1970s and 1980s, as he is married to band vocalist Cindy Wilson. Bennett will discuss his experiences traveling with and filming the famous Athens band in the early days.

Featuring vibrant hostess DeAundra Peek, the American Music Show ran as a public access cable television program in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1981 to 2005.

The 2020 Lillian Smith Book Awards ceremony will be held virtually on Sunday September 6, 2020 at 2:00PM as part of the annual AJC Decatur Book Festival, one of the largest independent book festivals in the country. Registration is free and available now through Eventbrite.

Join the Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection for a fun family day celebrating Home Movie Day 2020! Hosted annually by The Center for Home Movies, Home Movie Day is a celebration of amateur films and filmmaking. From 16mm reels to VHS tapes, people have documented their everyday lives on film for over a century. Today, anyone can quickly record and share a home movie on their cell phone. Join us as we celebrate our home movies and yours!

On August 26, 1920 the 19th Amendment was certified by the U.S. Secretary of State and women achieved the right to vote throughout the United States. Join the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library in celebrating the 100th anniversary of this event with a virtual tour of the exhibit "The Strategies of Suffrage: Mobilizing a Nation for Women's Rights" on Wednesday, August 26th at 2:00 p.m. The event will be streamed live on our Facebook page. Join us for this special collaboration with the Georgia Museum of Art (GMOA) as we celebrate local artist Art Rosenbaum and his art on campus. We’ll explore Georgia’s political history as captured by Rosenbaum ​in his mural “Doors” created for the ​Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies. 

Dr. Marion Nestle is the Paulette Goddard Professor Emerita of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University. She is also a consumer advocate, nutritionist and author of six award-winning books. Nestle’s research examines scientific and socioeconomic influences on food choice, obesity and food safety, with an emphasis on the role of food marketing. Among her recent honors are the John Dewey Award for Distinguished Public Service from Bard College and the Public Health Hero Award from the University of California School of Public Health at Berkeley.
