Records of the Past: The Making of Music Culture in Georgia

Records of the Past large banner
Exhibit Duration
April 2026 - July 2026

What is your favorite song? Who is your favorite musical artist? What does music mean to you? Music is a reflection of our unique identities and cultures. As people engage with music, objects accumulate. Material culture—physical objects made and used by a society—can preserve memories, support social change, and convey artistic expression.

Through this exhibition, you will explore documents of the Georgia music scene primarily from the Hargrett Georgia Music Collection. Get a glimpse behind the curtain, examine identity in the Dirty South, and indulge in the visual language of music by viewing these records of the past.

This exhibit was curated by the twenty students in “Introduction to Museum Studies” with Dr. Raad in Spring 2026.
