What is the difference between the Media Desk and the Media Archives?

The Media Desk is located in the Basement of the Main Library. The Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection (the Media Archives) are located in the University of Georgia Special Collections Libraries Building. The Media Desk holds the collection of commercially distributed audio and visual materials (sound recordings, videos, DVDs, laserdiscs, etc.). The Media Archives holds original archival audio and visual collections (including the Peabody Awards entries, the Georgia Folklore Collection, the Richard Nixon/Frank Gannon interviews, among others).

Is the Media Desk open to the public, or just UGA students and faculty?

The Media Desk may be used only by UGA affiliates who can provide a valid picture identification (examples include a U.S. drivers license or official state identification card, passport, military identification) or a current UGA ID card. No unsupervised persons under the age of 17 may use the Media Desk facilities.

Can I check out videos from the Media Desk, or must I view them within the department?

All current UGA Faculty, Staff, Library Staff and Students can check out videos with a valid UGA ID. UGA Students, Staff, Library Staff can check out videos for 3 days. UGA Faculty can check out video for 1 week.

UGA Faculty, Staff, Library Staff and Students who do not have a valid UGA ID must view videos within the department.

If I have an Outside Borrowers Card from the Access Services Department will this allow me to check out videos?

The Outside Borrowers Card gives patrons the ability to check out up to 5 books, but does not allow patrons to check out Media Desk videos.
